I’m very pleased to announce that Ondat, the leading container-native storage company, helping customers run stateful applications around the globe, has completed a venture round with existing investors; enabling us to focus on product, partnerships, and the community.
This endorsement from our investors reinforces our position in the Gartner Hype Cycle for Storage and Data Protection Technologies, where Ondat was featured in the category of Container-Native Storage (CNS) with a high level of benefit forecast for enterprises using cloud-native principles and looking to hybrid and multi-cloud. This recognition follows our recent innovations in snapshot and backup support, market-leading performance, and enhancements in the areas of Day 2 Operations.
It’s upon this great foundation that Ondat is now focused on accelerating product leadership, with Alex Chircop, returning to the role of CTO. Alex, founder of StorageOS, now Ondat, has run infrastructure and engineering for some of the world's largest financial institutions, such as Goldman Sachs and Nomura, and in his capacity as co-chair of the CNCF Storage Technical Advisory Group (TAG), we’re extremely fortunate to have Alex focused on the technical direction of our company. Alex’s unmatched background in enterprise storage, combined with his unique understanding of the Kubernetes ecosystem put Ondat on a path to define the future of container-native storage.
As part of this leadership change, I’ve accepted an invitation to move from Chief Commercial Officer, into the role of CEO. I’m humbled by the opportunity to partner with Alex in leading Ondat’s incredibly talented team, who I’ve seen innovating passionately to solve some of the industry's deepest technical challenges. I’ll be focused on Ondat’s commercial leadership, specifically strategic partnerships to accelerate the adoption of Ondat as the standard platform for container-native storage. I joined then StorageOS in 2021, having run the international business for StackRox, acquired by IBM Red Hat, and I’m excited to bring my experience from Salesforce.com, Tanium, and CrowdStrike to Ondat’s market-defining technology.
The Ondat team have been focusing on exciting innovations to meet the high demand for stateful edge workloads. Here’s a sneak preview; taking container-native storage to the edge:
- ARM64 support for edge and embedded devices running small, or single node-clusters
- Asynchronous volume replication, quasi-real-time, supporting new network topologies
- Real-time Linux, enabled by Ondat’s unique kernel-neutral technology
This past year I’ve seen a huge demand from the Kubernetes ecosystem to collaborate with Ondat; making partnerships our route to market for enterprise adoption. I’ve learned that playing in the Kubernetes ecosystem is a team game, and am very grateful for our recent collaborations with Rafay Systems, CloudCasa, SUSE Rancher, and AWS. Also, in the run-up to KubeCon in Detroit, we’ll be announcing several new partnerships, so watch this space!
In parallel, our SaaS delivered free Community Edition has provided a data storage platform for developers everywhere, helping us build a community around our Open Source projects Trousseau and Discoblocks, with more to come!
I’m enthused by the support of our investors, our customer confidence, and the dedication of an incredible team; I am truly excited for the next stage of our journey; to become the ubiquitous, de facto industry standard for container-native storage.
